The Holsteiner Verband is arguably the most successful sporthorse breeding organisation in the world. The headquarters of the Holstein sporthorse are based at Elmshorn in Germany and boasts a stable of over 60 elite breeding stallions. Holstein bred horses have dominated the Olympic and World Championship level Showjumping and Dressage events for the last fifty years.
Bi-annual specialist auctions for the next generation of superstar showjumpers and dressage horses are held at Elmshorn.
Along with the importation of Holstein sporthorses to Australia as a joint venture with the Holstein Verband, Somersby Equestrian Park is also conducting buying trips to Germany.
The dates for the trips co-incide with the elite auctions and are held each March and November 2010.
